The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack in Iran ’s border city of Pishin last weekend, which left at least 57 people dead.

“The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the deadly terrorist attack that occurred in the border city of Pishin in Iran on October 18, causing at least 57 deaths and 150 injuries,” Vietnamese Ambassador Le Luong Minh, who holds the rotating presidency of the council, said in a statement to the press on October 20.

The statement also said that the UNSC members expressed their condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and the Government of Iran.

The members of the council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism to justice, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant UNSC resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Iranian authorities in this regard.

While emphasising the need to combat all forms of terrorism, the UNSC members affirmed that the fight must be conducted in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, particularly international human rights and humanitarian law, said the statement./.
