US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Malaysia on October 10 for a two-day visit.

According to the state news agency Bernama, the US diplomat is scheduled to meet Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on bilateral ties and address the fourth Global Entrepreneurship Summit as the representative of President Obama on October 11.

The meeting is expected to draw 3,900 delegates from over 100 countries, including policy makers, regulators, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives from small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), corporations, non-government organisations and incubators.

Kerry planned his visit after President Barack Obama cancelled his Southeast Asia tour due to partial government shutdown and ongoing negotiations in the Congress to raise the debt ceiling.

Earlier on October 10, John Kerry cancelled his trip to the Philippines as typhoon Nari is forecast to sweep through the country.

However, he pledged to return to Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, in one month.-VNA
