President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan has pledged all possible support for the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) to work smoothly in the time to come.

Holding a working session with standing Vice President of the VBS Executive Board, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, in Hanoi on October 31, Nhan spoke highly of the VBS’s contributions to national unity and charitable activities.

He said he hopes the VBS will do its best for national development and continue working as an active VFF member.

He asked the VBS to outline specific preparations for the 2014 United Nations Day of Vesak, the 11 th event of its kind that will take place at Bai Dinh pagoda, the northern province of Ninh Binh.

Most Venerable Nhieu informed the VFF President of the outcomes of the seventh National Buddhist Congress for the 2012-2017 tenure, the VBS’s activities and preparations for the 705 th anniversary of the Nirvana attainment of King – Monk Tran Nhan Tong as well as the Vesak Day.

The VBS Executive Board has so far established its chapters in 60 cities and provinces nationwide, and is preparing to set up the remainder in the northern mountainous provinces of Lai Chau, Son La and Dien Bien in 2014.

The VBS Central Committee delegations have recently visited central provinces which were hard hit by Jebi and Wutip typhoons and presented gifts to the victims. The VBS has established a cow bank to support poor farmers in northern mountainous provinces, Most Venerable Nhieu said.-VNA
