Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) on January 13 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on furthering bilateral agricultural cooperation, in a joint effort to improve food security.

The signatories were Vietnam’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and his RoK counterpart Lee Dong-phil.

The MoU is a follow-up to an agreement reached by the two countries’ leaders during President Park Geun-hye’s visit to Vietnam last September.

In a press release the RoK’s Ministry of Agriculture said the two sides consented to actively increasing bilateral exchanges and collaboration in the field, including the establishment of a joint committee on agricultural cooperation, in a bid to better food security.

The aforesaid agreement also manifests the strategic partnership between the two nations and is expected to further promote investment in agriculture in each country, the ministry said.

During their meeting in Sejong, Minister Lee Dong-phil said the RoK will share experiences and provide agricultural technology for Vietnam. The two ministers discussed other issues, including the RoK’s export of pork to Vietnam.-VNA
