Vietnam's impressive run under coach Toshyia Mirua continued as the team coasted to a 3-0 victory over Korea University in an international friendly match on November 4 at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.

Striker Vu Minh Tuan scored a brace and attacking midfielder Nguyen Van Quyet scored one within the first 20 minutes of the match to make it Vietnam's successive third victory in as many matches under the Japanese coach, who took over reins in August.

The latest victory indicates that Miura is on the right track, but the coach himself is not complacent.

"The final score was very nice but there were other big chances but we could not score," Miura said. The Japanese coach has not revealed which players will be selected for the final squad.

The Koreans also managed to create some chances but failed to find the net and coach Moon Young-rae blamed his team's inability to score on the back of some decent opportunities on a slippery surface and different grass variety.

"The grass here is different from the grass in our stadiums. Moreover, the surface of the pitch was slippery, so our players did not handle the ball in the way they want," Moon told Vietnam News after the match.

Moon also said that his team consists of students with the best footballing ability from all universities across the Republic of Korea.

Despite the impressive margin of the win, there were problems Miura needs to work on, especially in defence and in the upfront.

Keeper Tran Nguyen Manh had to come up with many fine saves to keep score sheet clean for the home team after defenders gave the opponents some good chances.

At the other end, a rusty finishing ability was seen as main strikers Le Cong Vinh and Nguyen Anh Duc, who came off the bench in the second half, missed out on good chances.

With the second-choice players performing well today, Miura is not going to find it easy when it comes to selecting the final squad for the Southeast Asian Football Championships, which Vietnam co-host with Singapore at the end of the month.

The team will next move to Hanoi and play two more friendlies: against Palestine on November 9; and Malaysia on November 16.

The 10-man national football team on November 3 defeated Quang Nam, 4-0, in a friendly match at the Binh Duong province's Go Dau Stadium.

Nguyen Van Quyet and Nguyen Hai Anh scored two goals for the team while defender Tran Dinh Thang of Quang Nam scored another in the first half.

In the second half, coach Miura decided to use only 10 players, with only Hai Anh in the front line. Hai Anh responded by scoring his second goal of the game at the 85th minute, making it 4-0 for his team.

Miura said the use of just 10 men was part of his plan.

"Vietnamese players always lose their concentration when they lead in a match. I wanted to train them to focus on defence in all situations in the match," he explained.-VNA
