Visiting President and CEO of Yonhap news agency of the Republic of Korea Park Jung-chan hailed the cooperation with Vietnam News Agency (VNA), describing it as one of his news agency’s most important international partners.

He said he placed a high value on information provided by VNA, expressing his wish to develop the bilateral relations to become a symbol of cooperation among news agencies in Asia while talking with General Director of VNA Tran Mai Huong in Hanoi on Dec. 9.

VNA General Director Huong spoke highly of the current visit by the Yonhap delegation, stressing the need to exchange visits of high-level delegations, reporters and information between the two sides.

He also emphasised the need to increase mutual assistance between the two news agencies’ bureaux in their respective countries.

“VNA is willing to support the implementation of language training programmes for Yonhap,” the VNA General Director said.

He introduced the functions and tasks of VNA in its capacity as a national news agency, saying that to ensure information provision to foreign news agencies, VNA is accelerating multimedia, including mobile news and a TV channel, along with existing types of media and improving the quality of its publications.

In addition, VNA also focuses on personnel training and human resource development as well as management mechanism reform.

VNA always highly values the cooperation with Yonhap, General Director Huong said, seeking to promote relations between the two news agencies in the circumstance of good friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK.

General Director Huong agreed with President Park Jung-chan on the importance of regular cooperation and during specific events, VNA will create favourable conditions for Yonhap reporters to cover news in Vietnam .

In return, President Park Jung-chan said Yonhap will work to bring the language training programmes for Vietnamese and RoK reporters into reality, and affirmed readiness to share experience in applying information technology with VNA.

He also expressed his interest in VNA’s initial efforts to launch a TV channel and said that Yonhap will soon have a TV channel, meeting the RoK people’s demand as well as giving a wider voice to its correspondents.

Also at the talks, the two sides agreed to further increase quality and effectiveness in information exchange, meeting the requirements of rapid, accurate and various news on politics, economics and culture and serving as a bridge to strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries’ people.
