Hanoi (VNA) – World Bank (WB) Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific Victoria Kwakwa pledged to continue promoting the cooperation between the lender and Vietnam while meeting Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh in Hanoi on July 28.

The Deputy PM, who is also Foreign Minister, appreciated Kwakwa’s efforts in helping Vietnam stabilise its macro-economy.

He expressed his hope that Kwakwa, who used to be WB Country Director in Vietnam, will continue her support for national development strategies of the region’s countries, including Vietnam, in her new position.

As the head of the National Steering Committee for ODA and Preferential Loans, he affirmed to do his utmost to optimise the loans from the bank and other donors for Vietnam’s poverty reduction and national development.

The official asked the WB Vice President to encourage WB stakeholders to help Vietnam graduate from the International Development Association (IDA) as scheduled and continue gaining access to IDA loans beyond 2017.

He voiced his hope for close coordination between the World Bank (WB) and Vietnamese agencies in implementing projects in the country in the 2017 fiscal year.

With its experience, the bank is willing to collaborate with Vietnamese agencies in addressing issues related to the negotiations on and implementation of programmes and projects in Vietnam in the 2017 fiscal year, Kwakwa affirmed.-VNA
