Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang on November 25 received Deputy Chief of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Maj. Gen. Kan Li Kui in Hanoi.

Maj. Gen. Kan briefed his host on the outcomes of the meeting between the Chinese General Staff Department’s border guard delegation and the Vietnamese Border Guard High Command.

Both spoke highly of coordination between the two countries’ border guard forces along their shared border.

They agreed to exchange experience in training border guards, conduct more joint patrols, share information at border posts and organise exchanges for young officers.

The same day, Lieut. Gen. Giang met with Col. Barz Reinhard, Head of the United Nations Training Centre of the German Armed Forces.

Col. Reinhard informed his host about the centre’s operations, saying it trains about 20,000 people every year for the army, police and other sectors.

In reply, Giang voiced his hope that the centre will help Vietnam successfully fulfil its tasks when it joins UN peacekeeping missions.-VNA
