Judges at courts in Hanoi have proposed to increase the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Council, which is to be set up under Article 120, Chapter 10 of the draft revised Constitution.

The article, which is an entirely new stipulation, stipulates that the council will be set up by the National Assembly and will be tasked with examining the constitutionality of legal documents issued by the NA, the State President, NA Standing Committee, the Government, the Prime Minister, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuracy.

The opinions proposed to either expand the council’s jurisdiction or set up a Constitutional Court. Many judges also think the council should have an independent status instead of being put under the National Assembly’s direct control.

They also suggested enhancing courts’ jurisdiction such as interpreting laws and issuing case law.-VNA
