From 7am on May 20, two days earlier than the day of elections nationwide, more than 49,000 voters in 31 communes of Nghe An province’s four mountainous districts, including Tuong Duong , Ky Son, Que Phong and Con Cuong, flocked to constituencies to cast their ballots.
According to Ngo Tri Cuong, an official of the provincial Department of Home Affairs, by 2pm the rate of voters going to the polls reached about 95 percent, even 100 percent in some villages.
Vu Nhia Vu, 70, in Na Ngoi commune, expressed his wish that those who were elected should pay more attention to socio-economic development in remote areas, in order to ease difficulties for local people.
On the same day, 789 voters in Truong Son commune, in Quang Ninh district, in the central province of Quang Binh, also cast ballots for NA deputies and People’s Council representatives. Truong Son, mainly inhabited by Bru-Van Kieu ethnic people, became the seventh commune in Quang Binh province to hold early elections.
Due to difficult travel conditions, by 10am, at the commune’s three constituencies, over 75 percent of voters accomplished their ballots, the provincial elections committee said, adding that the election work was expected to complete by 5pm.
The early elections were also held in Tho Chau commune on the island district of Phu Quoc in the southern province of Kien Giang with 1,400 voters casting their ballots in five constituencies.
According to Dinh Khoa Toan, Vice Chairman of the Phu Quoc district People’s Committee, by 1pm, 100 percent of voters in the island district had been to the polls.
Tens of millions of voters nationwide are expected to vote for deputies of the 13 th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2011-2016 term at 91,438 constituencies in 63 cities and provinces on May 22.
The voters will select 500 NA deputies and 301,954 representatives of People’s Councils at all levels./.
