Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son and his Indian counterpart Sanjay Singh held the second strategic dialogue and the fifth political consultation in Hanoi on August 8-9.

At the sessions, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in politics, economics, trade, investment, culture and education, especially cooperation in national defence and security, high tech and human resource training. They also discussed measures to boost the strategic partnership between the two countries.

The countries agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, organise the 14 th session of the Joint-Committee in Vietnam in September 2011, and activities to celebrate the 40 th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972) and five years of establishment of the strategic partnership (2007-2012) between the two countries in 2012.

The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.

They agreed the East Sea issue needed to be solved by peaceful measures based on international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and also agreed that concerned parties needed to strictly implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The two sides highly valued and agreed to continue close cooperation at regional and international forums, including ASEAN-India cooperation, the East Asia Summit (EAS), Mekong-Ganga Cooperation and at the United Nations.

They also discussed viewpoints on non-traditional security, while agreeing to hold the third Strategic Dialogue and the sixth political consultation in India at a convenient time in 2013./.
