Tokyo, November 30 (VNA) – Vietnamese representatives joined an ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) delegation on a visit to Japan from November 25-29.


The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ha Thi Khiet, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam ( CPV ) Central Committee and a deputy of Ha Giang province in the National Assembly.

The AIPA delegation, headed by Lao National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Pany Yathoutou, who is AIPA Chairwoman, paid courtesy visits to the Speakers of Japan’s House of Councillors and House of Representatives, met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and held a dialogue with the Japan-ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Exchange Group.

Japanese leaders extended their condolences to the Philippines and its neighbours over the devastating impacts of super typhoon Haiyan.

They affirmed that Japan wants to further enhance its strategic partnership with ASEAN and is ready to share experience and help ASEAN countries in various fields.

AIPA Chairwoman Pany Yathoutou highly valued Japan ’s support for the building of an ASEAN Community, especially initiatives on ASEAN integration and connectivity. She also affirmed commitment to furthering cooperation between the Governments, parliaments and people of ASEAN countries and Japan .

During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation had a meeting with President of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Alliance Toshihiro Nikai. The two sides agreed to work to strengthen the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership and close ties between the two parliaments and their friendship parliamentarians’ groups in particular.

Vietnam appreciates the assistance given by Japan , which is now the largest investor in the country.

Japan is keen to boost cultural exchanges and agricultural cooperation with Vietnam and wants the country to affirm its determination to set up a Vietnam-Japan university.-VNA
