22 Chinese nationals arrested for credit card fraud, online gambling

Police in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau have arrested 22 Chinese nationals for alleged online gambling and the manufacturing of fake credit cards, police said on December 20.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau (VNA) – Policein the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau have arrested 22 Chinesenationals for alleged online gambling and the manufacturing of fake credit cards,police said on December 20.

The group, comprising 20 men and two women, were caught using machines andelectronic equipment to carry out high-tech crimes at three villas and a hotelin wards 1 and 2 in Vung Tau city, during a raid on December 19 conducted byprovincial police in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security.

The police seized 41 desktop computers, 13 laptops, more than 300 mobilephones, a credit card printer, more than 200 blank cards, 13 token keys, 33credit cards issued by Chinese banks, 650 million VND (27,950 USD), 100 USD and8,500 CNY (1,232 USD).

Information on the computers indicated that the group was accessing websites illegallydesigned for Chinese gamblers. The computers also stored information relatingto numerous banking accounts in the US and the UK.

The arrestees confessed that they came to Vietnam to make fake credit cards andgamble online.

The provincial police are working with the Ministry of Public Security andChinese police to investigate the case.-VNA

Authorities race to rescue victims of tourist boat sinking in Ha Long Bay

As of 6:00 pm, rescue teams had saved two more individuals from a tourist boat that sank in Ha Long Bay, bringing the total number of people rescued - both passengers and crew member - to 12.
