Ba Ria-Vung Tau (VNA) - A ceremony was held at Hang Duong cemetery inBa Ria – Vung Tau province on April 26 to celebrate 40 years since Con Dao wasrecognised as a special national historical site (1979-2019).

At the event, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh presented the Labour Order,third class, to the staff of the relic’s management board in recognition oftheir efforts in managing, preserving and promoting the value of the specialnational historical site.

She called for more efforts to popularise the historical story of Con Dao inorder to educate national pride and patriotism among people, particularly amongthe younger generation, while turning the site into an attractive touristdestination for visitors from both at home and abroad.

Con Dao special national historical site includes the Con Dao prison, dubbed a"Hell on Earth" through its 113-year history, where dozens ofthousands of Vietnamese revolutionary soldiers were detained during thenational struggles against the French and US.

However, many of the prisoners rose from the darkness of the prison to becomeexcellent leaders of the Party and State, including comrades Le Hong Phong,Nguyen Van Cu, Le Duan, Nguyen Van Linh, and Ton Duc Thang.
