52 contestants vie at int’l piano competition

Fifty-two contestants from nine countries and territories are competing at the second international piano competition that opened in Hanoi on Sept. 4.

The contestants, coming from Malaysia, Russia, mainland China and Taiwan, France, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Australia and Japan, are divided into three groups for pianists aged 10-13, 14-17, and 18-25.

Members of the jury are Vietnamese People’s Artist, Prof. Tran Thu Ha, together with famous piano artists and teachers from the RoK, Poland, the US, France, Macedonia and Japan.

The event also attracts the participation of well-known Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son, who serves as honourable president and art director, Polish conductor Jacek Rogala and artists from the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Vietnam National Academy of Music on Sept. 11. Apart from gold, silver and bronze medals, there are also three prizes for outstanding players from the Chopin Hanoi Society and three prizes for the best classical music performers in each group from the Best Future Music of Japan.

Artist Son will award three prizes worth 5,000 USD to each group’s winners while pianist Thai Thi Sam will present two prizes to two youngest finalists.
