The diving competition took place from December 5-9, with 119 athletes vying for 32 medal sets in scuba, snorkeling, breath-hold diving and snorkeling relay.

Bui Vuong Duy Anh from Ho Chi Minh City broke the women’s 400m scuba old record of 3’15”35 with 3’12”71 while Vo Thi Kieu from the central province of Quang Binh made a new record of 13’38”96 in the women’s 1,500m snorkeling event, which was previously set at 14’9”33.

Ho Chi Minh City topped the sport’s medal tally with 10 golds, seven silvers and two bronzes. It was followed by Hanoi with four golds, 10 silvers and six bronzes, and central Thanh Hoa province, 4 golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

Launched in 1990, the Vietnam National Games is organised every four years.

This year’s event, held from December 6-16, attracts the participation of nearly 7,500 athletes from cities, provinces and public security and military teams competing in 36 sports.-VNA
