Hanoi (VNA) – Theplenary session of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC)’s third meeting in2017 opened in Toronto, Canada, on July 26 with a view to promoting economicand trade cooperation and connectivity in the region.

Bui Thanh Son, Permanent DeputyForeign Minister of Vietnam – the host of the APEC Year 2017 - attended anddelivered a keynote speech, highlighting activities of APEC Senior OfficialMeetings (SOM) this year.

Attending the event weredelegates from 21 member economies who are due to attend a number of meetingsand sideline activities such as the Growing Business Partnership Symposium(ABACx), the Asia-Pacific Finance Forum (APFF). They are also scheduled tovisit an assemble facility of aircraft manufacturer Bombardier and the world’slargest MaRS urban initiative.

The ABAC meeting aims to promoteregional public policy initiatives, encourage partnerships between Canadian andforeign firms, share experience in key fields, enhance creativity and financialcreativity, develop Canada into an innovative hub and an attractive businessdestination.

It was the most important ABACmeeting in 2017 in order to make recommendations to submit to APEC leaders atthe APEC Economic Leaders Week slated for later this year.-VNA

Thailand shortens visa-free stay to 30 days

Minister of Tourism and Sports Sorawong Thienthong said the issue had been widely discussed among all related stakeholders in the past few weeks, and they all agreed in principle to reduce the period of stays from 60 days to 30 days for citizens from countries granted a visa exemption under the programme.
