ABU meeting seeks global protection of IP rights

The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has recently held a forum in Bangkok, Thailand to provide a platform for those in the broadcasting industry to exchange opinions regarding the current situation on violations of copyrights in the region.
The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has recently held a forum inBangkok, Thailand to provide a platform for those in the broadcastingindustry to exchange opinions regarding the current situation onviolations of copyrights in the region.

The forum, themed “IPin fast forward: The future for broadcasters in the digital era”, washeld by the National Broadcasting of Thailand (NBT).

Another objective of the ABU forum was to provide updates on theprogress made on the law enforcement relating to the copyright andrelated issues, and to push for an international treaty as a means tokeep cross-country copyright infringements at bay.

Astechnology progresses quickly, the media platform has evolved to matchusers' wants and needs. Numerous cases of content infringements and theso-called 'grey areas', where law has yet to be enforced to protect theinterests of copyright owners, have been reported across the region.

Participatingin this event were delegates from Australia, China, Iran,Malaysia, the Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.The meeting and forum are a joint effort between the Public RelationsDepartment and the ABU.-VNA
