The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on April 23 signed an agreement providing 81.7 million USD to Cambodia to help the country recover from the devastating floods that struck in 2013.
The disaster affected 1.7 million Cambodians and caused losses of 356 million USD.
The agreement was inked in Phnom Penh by Cambodian Finance Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, ADB Country Director Eric Sidgwick, and Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Alison Burrows, whose country is supplying 6.7 million USD of the amount.
Addressing the media after the signing ceremony, Sidgwick said the reconstruction of infrastructure and the development of farming production, social services and markets will aid the rebuilding efforts of local residents in flood-struck areas.
The new funding will bring ADB’s loans to Cambodia to 130 million USD, most of which has been used to build 376 km of roads, three bridges and nine irrigation facilities in the hardest hit localities.
Minister Pornmoniroth said the new round of reconstruction efforts will be carried out from this year.-VNA
