AFC launches campaign against hunger

Reigning AFC Women’s Player of the Year and Goodwill Ambassador for the Asian Football against Hunger Campaign, Kathryn Gill, has called for the mobilisation of people’s willpower and resources to end poverty and hunger in Asia.
Reigning AFC Women’s Player of the Year and Goodwill Ambassador for the Asian Football against Hunger Campaign, Kathryn Gill, has called for the mobilisation of people’s willpower and resources to end poverty and hunger in Asia.

Speaking at a press conference for the campaign in conjunction with the AFC U19 Women’s Championship in Ho Chi Minh City , Gill said through the strength of football, female players would not only compete, but also give a helping hand to poor women in Asia .  

The Asian Football against Hunger Campaign was launched on Oct. 14 and ended on Oct. 16 when the final match between Vietnam and Japan took place at the Thong Nhat Stadium.

Gill visited a fishery village in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Oct. 14 where residents are being assisted by the campaign organised by the AFC and UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The visit was part of the efforts between the AFC and FAO to fight hunger which affects one billion people in the world, including 578 million people in Asia .

The AFC has supported over 30 projects in 10 countries throughout Asia and allocated 413,000 USD from the 2011 Asian Cup ticket sales revenue to support the campaign against hunger./.
