Hung Yen (VNA) - An exhibition featuring 570 typical antiques of different materials opened in Hung Yen city on November 18.

The week-long event, the sixth of its kind in the northern province Hung Yen, was organised by the Hung Yen Museum in collaboration with the UNESCO centre for antique research and preservation in Vietnam, Hung Yen’s UNESCO antique research and collection club.

The exhibition gives visitors an insight into Hung Yen - the land with a long-standing history and culture and various historic sites and the innovation of local people who love and honour beauties in life.

Bronze tools used in jobs and daily life showed a glorious period of the Dong Son culture such as Dong Xa bronze drum, bonze arrows and axes, antique coins, bracelets, and earrings dated back from 2,000 to 2,500 years.

Other noticeable objects include lime pots, Dong Thanh ceramic pots and wine vials of 17th century, 18th century statue of Bodhisattva Kuan-yin and many antiques from the Ly, Tran, Le and Nguyen dynasties.

Besides native antiques, there are also antiques originated from China and Japan on display, proving Hung Yen’s early trade activity with foreign countries.

Tran Dang Tuan, Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said from the 16th century to the 17th century, Pho Hien was formed, and quickly became a bustling trading place for foreign boats.

The exhibition is expected to expand research and exchanges among collectors and researchers in and outside the province in order to help it preserve and promote national culture.-VNA
