Tokyo (VNA) – April 4 was officially announced as Day of “Pho”, Vietnam’s signature noodle soup, in Japan during a ceremony at EXPO City Osaka complex in the country on April 2.
In his opening remarks at the event, Vietnamese Consul General in Osaka Tran Duc Binh spoke highly of the recognition in honour of “Pho” in Japan.
He hoped that celebration of the day would give Japanese people a better understanding of Vietnamese cuisine and bring the two countries closer.
Muraoka Hiroshi, President of Acecook, a Japan-based instant noodle producer, said the company has produced instant “pho” noodle and made it available at convenience stores in Japan.
According to him, the instant noodles are made from Vietnamese rice to create the authentic taste of “pho” while the broth is seasoned following recipes of popular “pho” restaurants across Vietnam.
It is the first time Vietnam’s traditional “pho” has a day to be internationally celebrated.
The April 4 was chosen as in English, “4” is pronounced similarly to “pho”.
Vietnamese Pho consists of broth, linguine-shaped rice noodles, herbs and meat. It is primarily served with either beef or chicken. The popular street food in Vietnam has won over the hearts of those who tasted it.-VNA
