Argentina is keen on working with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in areas of mutual potential, and has vowed to forge closer cooperative ties between the bloc and Latin America.

This was confirmed by Argentinean Ambassador to ASEAN Ricardo Lui Bocalandro while submitting his credentials to ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on March 14.

The ambassador said he sees ASEAN as an important and successful regional organisation that has made active contributions to maintaining peace, security and development in the region and the world.

Secretary General Minh hailed Argentina for promoting its relations with ASEAN member states in various fields, notably economics, security, energy and tourism.

He encouraged the ambassador to work with the bloc in stepping up inter-regional cooperation between ASEAN and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR), and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

Bocalandro is the second Argentinean Ambassador to the bloc since the ASEAN Charter took effect in December 2008.-VNA
