HCM City (VNA) – Border guards in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested a man suspected of illegally transporting guns and ammunition from another country to Vietnam through the city port.
According to Colonel Pham Van Thang, Commander of the Ho Chi Minh Port Border Guard, on April 23, border guards of Khanh Hoi border gate examined the luggage of a man who sailed to the city on Phuong Nam 1 vessel from the Philippines and detected two US-made guns, along with 178 bullets.
At the Ho Chi Minh Port Border Guard office, the man, Nguyen Viet Manh, born in 1983 and residing in Thuy Xuan Commune, Thai Thuy district of the northern Thai Binh province, said he was a crewmember of the Nam Phuong 01.
He confessed the guns and the bullets were transported from abroad to Vietnam.
Manh and the exhibits are being held for further investigation.-VNA
