ASEAN becomes China’s third largest trading partner

This means the ASEAN nations have collectively surpassed Japan to become China ’s third largest trading partner, the daily said.

The daily quoted China ’s Deputy Secretary-General of China-ASEAN Business Council Xu Ningning as saying that the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA), which went into full swing on January 1 this year, has greatly promoted bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.

China ’s trade with ASEAN more than quadrupled from 41.6 billion USD in 2001, the year China and ASEAN agreed to establish the FTA to 213 billion USD in 2009.

By 2009, investment between China and ASEAN countries reached more than 60 billion USD and the five top ASEAN investors in China are Singapore , Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand and the Philippines./.
