Jakarta (VNA) - The ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship (ACYLS) 2020 was launched at a virtual ceremony on October 20.  

The ceremony was attended by ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General Kung Phoak, Philippine Secretary of Education Leonor MagtolisBriones and Chinese Deputy ForeignMinister Luo Zhaohui.

Chinese Deputy ForeignMinister Luo said the ACYLS has become "one of the innovative flagshipprojects" of the China-ASEAN cooperation in less than two years.

It has played an important role inconsolidating the people-to-people pillar of the cooperation, he said.

ASEAN'sDeputy Secretary-General for the Socio-Cultural Community Kung Phoak commendedthe programme for providing opportunities forASEAN nationals to undertake training and graduate study in China.

According to ChineseAmbassador to ASEAN Deng Xijun, nearly100 young people from ASEAN countries have undertaken graduate courses as wellas short-term exchange and training courses in China since the scholarship wasfirst launched.

The ACYLS was initiated by Chinese premier Li Keqiang andadopted by ASEAN leaders at the 21st ASEAN-China summit in 2018 inSingapore./.
