ASEAN finance ministers meeting opens

The 19th ASEAN Finance Ministers' Meeting and the 11th Asean Central Bank Governors' Meeting opened in the Malaysia capital Kuala Lampur on March 21.

Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung led the Vietnamese delegation to the events.

At their meetings, ASEAN finance ministers and central bank governorsfocused on accelerating efforts towards realising the ASEAN EconomicCommunity by end of this year.

Main issues atthe finance ministers' meeting included financial servicesliberalisation, capital account liberalisation, capital marketdevelopment, payment and settlement systems, and banking integration.

Other significant areas of cooperation fordiscussion were enhancing regional surveillance, infrastructurefinancing - ASEAN infrastructure fund, customs matters, taxation,insurance, and financial inclusion.

A jointministerial statement was issued at the event that wrapped up on thesame day. The statement said ASEAN member countries will continue theircommitment in boosting regional economic growth and financial stability.-VNA
