Nearly 100 diplomats, scholars and experts from more than 20 countries on April 1 gathered at a Hanoi plenary to discuss legal issues during ASEAN integration.
Themed “ASEAN Economic Community”, the seminar, the third of its kind, was co-organised by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the National University of Singapore.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son affirmed that Vietnam always supports the improvement of the role of law during ASEAN integration and the building of an ASEAN Community.
Vietnam has adjusted its law and procedures in line with the bloc’s practices and regulations, Son said, adding that the country is always active in ASEAN Charter negotiations and the realisation of its articles.
Professor Joseph Weiler from the European University Institute said that once the ASEAN Community is established in 2015, legal issues need to be consistent with the new context.
Policies on economic affairs should be bettered in order to boost economic connection between member countries, he said.
During the seminar, delegates also exchanged views on issues related to trade and investment during the integration process.-VNA
