Representatives of the permanent missions of ASEAN countries to the United Nations (UN) celebrated the “ASEAN Family Day” in New York on June 22.
Ambassador U Kyaw Tin, head of the Myanmar mission, said that the event aimed to promote solidarity and mutual support among the missions.
That event also seeks to bring into play the bloc’s “One Vision, One Identity, One Community” motto as it heads towards forging a common economic community by 2015, he added.
Myanmar is the ASEAN Chair for 2014.
Several cultural activities including arts performances, games and sampling of traditional cuisines from all the member nations marked the celebration. Vietnamese traditional dishes like nem (fried spring rolls), xoi (steamed glutinous rice) and stir-fried vermicelli proved popular among the visitors.
