ASEAN-Russia approve energy cooperation plan

Senior officials from ASEAN and Russia have approved a plan on cooperation in energy between the two sides till 2015 at the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Energy (SOME) with Russia in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on July 21.

At the meeting,the first of its kind so far, the participants agreed to further boostcooperation between the two sides.

Russia proposed threeactivities for ASEAN-Russia cooperation on energy, alternative energyand clean energy technology in 2010: building a network of experts onanalysis and consultancy on alternative energy, organising a seminar onnuclear energy for civil purpose and a Russia-ASEAN economic conferenceplus an exhibition on energy.

The participants agreed on theorganisation of the economic conference and the exhibition and agreed inprinciple on the remaining activities. They asked the Russian side towork with the ASEAN Secretariat on the implementation of thoseactivities.

The meeting of ASEAN Senior OfficialsMeeting on Energy (SOME) and Russia was under the framework of the28th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM 28), taking place from July19-23./.
