Russia’s Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alexey Likhachev and ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Lim Hong Hin have discussed issues of their common concern, especially cooperation opportunities emerging from the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the ASEAN Connectivity programme.
At a recent reception for Likhachev, Lim, who is responsible for the AEC, briefed the Russian official and his delegation to Indonesia on the latest developments in the establishment of the economic community expected to be completed by 2015 and the implementation of a master plan on ASEAN Connectivity.
For his part, Likhachev affirmed the bloc’s central role and efforts in maintaining peace, security, stability and development in the region as well as the great potential between the two sides in the fields of transport, energy, information technology, tourism and the Public-Private Partnership investment fund.
He reiterated Russia’s commitments to continue working closely with ASEAN countries through its ongoing collaboration with relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies and intensifying dialogues between the business communities.
He also laid importance on stepping up the implementation of the ASEAN-Russia Trade and Investment Cooperation Work Programme, and stressed the significant role of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council in facilitating collaboration between their business communities to utilise trade and investment opportunities.-VNA
