Officials from all ASEAN’s member countries are gathering in Hanoi to discuss a wide range of issues relating to migrant workers.
The two-day meeting is the third of its kind of the ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW), which aims to prepare for the 21 st ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting.
The participants focus their discussion on ways to promote the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers to prevent exploitation and maltreatment.
They also look to increase the group’s cooperation in combating human trafficking and develop ASEAN’s documents regarding the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers.
Experts said a consensus reached at this meeting will help create important progress in ASEAN member countries’ cooperation in migrant workers as part of the roadmap to build the ASEAN Community by 2015, a community where skilled labourers can move freely to look for the job they want.
The meeting will wrap up on May 19./.
