The broken Asia-America Gateway (AAG) international undersea fiber optic cable system that links to Vietnam’s Vung Tau, was soldered on January 4, according to the AAG management committee.
The fixing work now is on the last minute.
Representatives from telecommunication businesses on January 5 said after the repair completes, international internet traffic will be fully restored and operate stably.
The internet cable was found cut 278 kilometres off the coast of Vung Tau city on December 20, on the line from Vietnam to Hong Kong .
The international cable cut sent subscribers of four local internet service providers, namely FPT Telecom, Viettel telecom, VNPT and SPT, to experience disruption or failure to access international services, including e-mail, website access, chatting and video calling. VNPT said 40 percent of its traffic to international services was affected.
The AAG is a 20,000 kilometre submarine communications cable system connecting South-East Asia with the US mainland across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii .
It has landing points in the US , Hawaii , Guam, the Philippines , Hong Kong , Malaysia , Singapore , Thailand , Brunei and Vietnam .
The cable system was put into operation in November 2009.
The cable was cut earlier too, in 2011 and 2012. The last incident occurred on August 13, 2012, and it took about two weeks to fix it.-VNA
