The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) convened a two-day meeting at sub-committee level on protecting and respecting cultural diversity, in the Cambodian capital city of Phnom Penh , starting from July 5.
At the meeting, ten delegations from APA member countries discussed how to prevent mankind’s cultural heritage from being hurt and respect cultural diversity of each country and nation in Asia .
They agreed that governments have to demonstrate their political will and maintain cooperation among APA member countries while ensuring that cultural diversity will not affect the socio-economic integration in the region.
Parliaments of APA member countries need to fulfil their roles in inspecting and pushing governments’ actions in implementing policies and concrete measures in this field, they said.
The Vietnamese delegation to the meeting was headed by Vo Van Thuong, alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and member of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children./.
