Asian Olympic Council delegation visits Vietnam

Hanoi, (VNA) – GeneralDirector of the Vietnam Sports Administration Vuong Bich Thang had a workingsession with a delegation from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) led by DavidDS Moon.

At the meeting, David DS Moon saidthe OCA delegation’s visit aims to promote the role of athletes through theestablishment and development of athletes committees under national Olympic committees.

He said the OCA wants to discusswith the Vietnam Sports Administration a project on training athletes instartup to prepare them for life after retiring from competition.

The OCA official also mentionedthe grant of scholarships for athletes with excellent performances and those indisadvantaged circumstances.

He expressed the hope that aftercompleting the national sport training centre in Can Tho city, Vietnam willinvite foreign athletes to the centre for exchanges and experience sharing.

General Director Thang saidVietnam’s sport performance is still far below the Asian level, and the countryhopes to receive support from the OCA to improve its sport capacity.

The Vietnamese sport officialhailed the project on training athletes to prepare them for life after retiringfrom competition, which he said drew great interest from the Government andrelated agencies of Vietnam. He expressed hope that the project will belaunched soon.  

Thang also reported that theathletes committee of Vietnam has begun operation but its work has not produceddesired results. He said Vietnam needs more assistance from the OCA in thework. -VNA

Golf tournament marks 50 years of Vietnam–Germany ties

Currently, Muong Lay has 1,192 households living in traditional stilt houses out of a total of 3,198 families, with a stilt house density of approximately 10.58 houses per square kilometre, significantly higher than in other areas with White Thai populations.
