The sixth Asian U23 Fencing Championships will take place in Hanoi from October 26-31, attracting 21 foreign teams with 247 fencers.

Hanoi (VNA) – The sixth Asian U23 FencingChampionships will take place in Hanoi from October 26-31, attracting 21foreign teams with 247 fencers.

It was announced at a press conference co-hosted by the VietnameseFencing Federation and the municipal Department of Culture and Sports in Hanoion October 23.

Foreign teams come from Australia, Hong Kong, Saudi Arab,Kuwait, the Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Japan, Iraq, Syria,Singapore, Kazakhstan, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Uzbekistan,Lebanon, Indonesia and Taiwan.

Forty-five Vietnamese fencers will compete in six individualand six teams’ events.

The standout achievement came in the Sanda (combat) events, where Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hien claimed gold medals after impressive victories over opponents from China and Hong Kong (China), respectively. Thu Thuy edged out Zhang Xiaoyu in the 60kg category with a 2-1 win, while Ngoc Hien dominated her 56kg bout 2-0.
