The Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) made its debut in Hanoi on February 19 with five foreign invested members.
They are Honda Vietnam Co. Ltd., Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co. Ltd, Vietnam Suzuki Corporation, Piaggio Vietnam Co. Ltd. and SYM Vietnam.
These are the largest motorcycle producers in the country with their total sales making up to over 95 percent of the market share.
Nearly 70 percent of motorcycles on sale are manufactured by Honda, and the company holds the VAMM Chair for the 2013 – 2015 tenure. It is followed by Yamaha with 20 percent.
VAMM is hoped to act as a forum for motorcycle manufacturers in Vietnam to work together to produce quality vehicles and ensure fair competition.
VAMM Chairman Masayuki Igarashi, who is also the Honda Vietnam General Director, said the establishment is a step in the right direction for the development of the motorcycle industry, especially when Vietnam has claimed fourth position in the world for annual motorcycle output, following India, China and Indonesia.-VNA
