Association’s painting contest aimed at artists under 40

Painters under 40 years old are encouraged to participate in a painting contest launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association in co-operation with The V Art and Galerie Nguyen this week.

HCM City (VNA) - Painters under 40 years old are encouraged to participate in a paintingcontest launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association in co-operationwith The V Art and Galerie Nguyen this week.

The event, VietartToday 2016, aims to help young artists from anywhere in the country developtheir professional careers.

“We hope our contestwill be a bridge to connect young artists, galleries and collectors and createopportunities for winners to introduce their art at home and abroad,” saidveteran artist Uyen Huy, a member of the event’s advisory board.

The organisers invitedDr Ildegarda E. Scheidegger, former deputy director in Tribal and Asian Art ofthe Sotheby’s Zurich, Switzerland office, to join the jury. She works as anindependent art publisher, curator and artist manager.

The jury also includes curatorsThanh Kieu Moeller of Singapore and Julie Lam of Canada, collector Oliver DoNgoc of Luxembourg and painter Tran Thanh Canh, head of the association’s Clubof Young Artists.

Submissions shouldinclude no more than 20 paintings and be at least 60cmx60cm in size in oil,lacquer, acrylic or mixed media. The painter’s biography should also beincluded. 

Participants should send their works beforeDecember 6 to the organising board at the email infor@thevart.com .

Twenty collections of paintings will be chosenfor the final round on December 10. The works will be displayed at The V Artand Galerie Nguyen.

A jury and a group of collectors invited by theorganisers will vote and choose the winners.

The organisers will present a first prize worth 2.5billion VND (110,000 USD), including 100 million VND (4,500 USD) in cash, atour to Singapore and a five-year exclusive contract with The V Art and GalerieNguyen.   

Second and third prizes are worth a total of 2.5billion VND. Consolation prizes will also be given.

The awards presentationceremony is expected to take place in February.-VNA
