Australia Awards Scholarship recipients to start studies in Australia

Fifty-two Australia Awards Scholarship recipients will soon leave Vietnam to undertake postgraduate studies at an Australian university of their choice.

Fifty-two Australia Awards Scholarship recipients will soonleave Vietnam to undertake postgraduate studies at an Australian university oftheir choice. 

Australia Awards are prestigious internationalscholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government. Since 1973,Australia has worked with Vietnam to provide scholarships to outstandingVietnamese students, helping Vietnam to build its human resources. The newscholars are the latest of over 6,000 Vietnamese students who have receivedAustralian Government scholarships.

“This remarkable group of young and talentedstudents will soon enjoy a world-class education and great life experience inAustralia. However, what they do and achieve during their studies in Australiais only the first step in their success. The most important thing is that upontheir return to Vietnam they will use the knowledge and skills acquired inAustralia to contribute to the development of Vietnam and mutually beneficiallinkages between our two countries,” Australian Ambassador to Vietnam CraigChittick said. 

The Australian Government actively encourages andsupports people with disabilities, from disadvantaged rural areas and fromethnic minorities to participate in the Australia Awards. As a result, thisgroup of awardees includes three people with disability and four from ethnicminority groups.

“The Australia Awards Scholarship will empower meto fulfill my dream. As a visually impaired person, I understand the challengespeople with disability must overcome to realise their full potential and liveproductive lives. Thus, after I return home to Vietnam, I intend to use myknowledge and experience in Australia to establish a centre to provide mentalhealth counselling services for people with disability and other vulnerablegroups,” commented Huynh Huu Canh, who will study for a Master of Social Workat Flinders University. 

Australia is a leading provider of scholarships toVietnam. The Australia Awards Scholarships are part of a broader investment bythe Australian Government – Aus4Skills, which includes Australia Awards ShortCourses and informal learning opportunities to address knowledge and skillsgaps to help Vietnam realise its aspirations to become a prosperous andsocially inclusive country.-VNA

Coast Guard Region 2 promotes IUU-free fishing among Quang Ngai fishermen

The Command of Coast Guard Region 2 briefed the fishermen on the Law of the Sea of Vietnam, the Fisheries Law, and legal documents related to IUU prevention. Officers also provided guidance on identifying areas under Vietnam’s sovereignty and jurisdiction, traditional fishing grounds, warning zones, and prohibited fishing areas.
