System Crasher will open the German Film Festival in Hanoi. (Photo: german-films.de) Hanoi (VNA) - The German Film Festival will kick off at the National Cinema Centre inHanoi tonight, with eightmovies to be screened.
The festival held by the GoetheInstitute in Hanoi includes the award-winning Systemsprenger (SystemCrasher), Too Far Away, The Mover; AngelaMerkel - The Unexpected, Farewell toEurope, Mountain Miracle, The Perfect Secret and Democracy.
"The festival is held inone month, not one week in association with social distancing," saidthe institute’s director Wilfried Eckstein at the press conference.
The institute is aiming topromote cultural activities which have been limited due to the COVID-19pandemic, he said.
Opening the festival is theaward-winning System Crasher. Directedby Nora Fingscheidt, the film about a troubled child won the best feature filmat the German Film Awards and actress Helena Zengel, 11, won the award forthe best female lead.
In addition to the top prize, Systemsprenger also won awards forscreenwriting, direction, editing, sound design and best female supportingactor.
The movie will be shown at 8pmon September 12 andOctober 8.
Another highlight of thefestival will be Das Perfekte Geheimnis (ThePerfect Secret). It is a remake of the Italian film Perfetti Sconosciuti and was releasedlast October in Germany.
Seven friends meet up fordinner on a full moon Friday night and deep secrets will come to the surface,shaking their lives and threatening their relationships.
The film has been remade byeight countries including Vietnam entitled Tiec Trang Mau (Blood Moon Party) by director Nguyen Quang Dung. The film will be shown on September 19.
Documentary lovers will havethe chance to watch Angela Merkel - TheUnexpected and Democracy onSeptember 24 and October 1.
Directed by Torsten Korner andMatthias Schmidt, the 90-minute AngelaMerkel - The Unexpected tells the story of Chancellor Merkel’sunexpected rise to power – from an East German physicist to the most powerfulwoman in the world.
The 100-minute film by DavidBernet, Democracy, wonthe German Film Award Documentary in 2015 and offers an insightinto a hidden world of political struggle for new data protection legislationin the European Union.
All the films have Germandubbing with Vietnamese and English subtitles. They will be shown at 8pm everyTuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 87 Lang Hạ Street./.
