Bangladesh has appointed its Ambassador to Indonesia Nazmul Quaunine as the first ambassador of the country to ASEAN.
Bangladesh has appointed its Ambassador to Indonesia Nazmul Quaunine as the first ambassador of the country to ASEAN.

The ambassador presented his Letter of Credence to ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on May 6.

Congratulating Quaunine on his new role, Secretary-General Minh stressed that the ambassador could play an important role in forging cooperation between ASEAN and Bangladesh as well as within the framework of ASEAN-South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Secretary-General Minh briefed the Bangladeshi Ambassador on the progress of the ASEAN Community building.

For his part, Ambassador Quaunine stressed Bangladesh’s growing interest in strengthening close relations with ASEAN, especially in developing the east-west economic corridor which passes through Bangladesh, Myanmar and the rest of ASEAN member states.

He said that his country is exploring economic growth areas along its borders with India and Myanmar which will serve as gateways to ASEAN.-VNA
