Blind Japanese pianist to stage Vietnam concerts

As part of a series of events to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties, the concerts will be broadcast by Vietnam Television (VTV), according to Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) website.

25-year-old Tsujii is one of most talented pianists and composers in Japan. He began to learn the piano at the age of two and five years later, won first prize for his performance at the All Japan Blind Students competition.

He made his debut with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra when he was 10 years old and later became the first blind Japanese artist to win a gold medal at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Texas, the US .

In addition to Tsujii’s concerts, astronaut candidate Noguchi Soichi from the National Space Development Agency of Japan and Lieutenant General Pham Tuan, the first Vietnamese astronaut, will have an exchange with young Vietnamese people as part of the diplomatic ties anniversary celebrations.

VTV will coordinate with the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) to air 100 films about Japan and its people, said Ho Kien, a VTV official.

A Japan Day will be held at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi on June 18 and the Sheraton Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City on June 20. The event will feature traditional Japanese food and culture as well as ENKA dance and Kimono fashion show.-VNA
