A home-made bomb, planted at the fence of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP)’s office in Kampong Speu province by unidentified men, went off on August 14 night, but caused no injury, according to news reports.
Khem Pannara, police chief of Kong Pisey district, was quoted as saying on August 15 that the incident occurred at 9:45 pm local time.
Police have not determined the identity of the wrongdoer yet and an investigation is underway, he said.
It was the second bomb blast in Cambodia after the general election on July 28 in which the CPP of Prime Minister Hun Sen got the victory, but the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) led by Sam Rainsy rejected the results, claiming serious irregularities during the poll.
The first accident happened on August 7 when an improvised bomb, planted near a trash bin outside the fence of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, exploded, but also caused no injury.
The dispute between the CPP and the opposition party over the election results has intensified when the National Election Committee released the initial results on August 12, showing that the ruling CPP won a majority of vote.
According to NEC, the CPP got 3,236,009 votes, while CNRP gained 2,945,676 votes in the July 28 general election.-VNA
