Born in London ,Yoda, whose real name is Duncan Beiny, started performing at Mojo, apopular Warwick hip hop and soul nightclub, when studying at theUniversity of Warwick in the late 1990s.
Aftergraduation, he began releasing underground demo mix-tapes to small musicshops. Through the popularity of these tapes, Antidote Recordscommissioned Yoda to record his debut How to Cut&Paste Mix TapeVol.1 in 2001.
In 2006 his first album, The AmazingAdventures of DJ Yoda, featuring hip-hop luminaries Biz Markie, Sway,Ugly Duckling and MC Paul Barman was released to critical acclaim;swiftly followed by singles Wheels in 2006, and Playin' Around in 2007.
Along with his recording career, Yoda has receivedhigh praise for his live performances, winning the DMC DJ of the YearAward in the Scratch DJ category in 2001 and was among six nominees forbest UK hip-hop DJ in the UK Hip-Hop Awards in the same year. In2009, he was a Sony Radio Academy Award nominee.
Hisseminal How to Cut&Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixingstyle that prompted Q magazine to declare him as "one of the ten DJs tosee before you die".
In addition to being a regularguest on BBC Radio One, Yoda has sat on the judging panel for the DMC DJWorld Finals for the last three years.
