An undersea telecom cable that broke on March 8 has been fixed and resumed normal operation on March 28, FPT Telecom reported.

With the Asia America Gateway cable again functioning normally, the Internet bandwidth connection between Vietnam and foreign countries has been fully restored, it said.

Four Vietnamese companies are connected to AAG – Vietnam National Post and Telecommunications Corporation, military-run Viettel, and Sai Gon Post and Telecommunications Services Corporation besides FPT Telecom – with the former three also being part owners of the cable.

It is owned, along with the three, by telecom operators in various Asian countries and the US .

FPT Telecom said as soon as the disruption occurred, it diverted part of the lost capacity to a standby system to ensure international communications proceeded smoothly and launched more connection routes to minimise the impact./.
