Cambodia’s first agricultural census aims to create reliable statistics on one of the country’s most important economic sectors.

The census will look at the total area of agricultural holdings, location, size, use and ownership of land, the types of crops planted, farming techniques, use of irrigation and the characteristics of farming households.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Planning, the investigation consists of two rounds.

In the first round, it will expect to reach 2.7 million households engaged in agricultural activities.

In the second round, households will be interviewed about their agricultural activities.

The data collected will be published in late 2014 or early 2015.

Agriculture contributes to around 35 percent of Cambodia’s GDP. Seventy percent of the country’s population is involved in farming.

ADB forecast that Cambodia ’s agricultural sector would grow at 4 percent this year.-VNA
