The meeting was co-chaired by Ouch Borith, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Omer Onhon, Deputy Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Cambodian official told reporters after the meeting that the two sides discussed ways to boost bilateral ties and cooperation in politics, economics, trade, education and tourism, along with exchanging views on regional and international issues.

The consultations are of important in forming a base for cooperation between both countries, Onhon said, adding that Turkey has been focusing on developing its relations with Asian countries.

He said Turkey sees Cambodia, a country with great potential, as a very good partner in Asia, and hopes to further develop its relations with the country in all fields.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to institutionalise political consultations.

Ouch Borith said trade volume between Turkey and Cambodia is relatively small - only 30 million USD in 2013. Some 4,670 Turkish visitors came to Cambodia last year, up 37 percent from 2012.-VNA
