According to the MT, the number of visitors to the temple at Angkor Watt also rose to over one million people, a year on year increase of 25.4 percent.

Vietnam topped the list of foreign visitors to the country with 381,200 arrivals, up 48.85 percent compared to the same period last year. It was followed by China and the Republic of Korea.

Kong Sopheareak, the head of the MT Department of Statistics said that the number of visitors from western countries has bounced back and the amount of people who have arrived by air has increased sharply, accounting for 51 percent of foreign arrivals.

He added that with the forthcoming holiday season, the tourist sector could reach its target of 2.4 million visitors this year./.
