Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh on March 18 urged the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to participate in parliament in order to discuss and solve post-election issues through legal means.
In his speech to 500 military personnel at the Institute for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and Explosive Remnants of War Clearance, Tea Banh stressed that for the nation’s interest, the opposition should join the National Assembly to discuss its proposed electoral reforms, not illegally marching on streets to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The minister also declared that the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces fully support the government led by Hun Sen and vow to maintain peace and stability for the people of Cambodia.
Political disputes between the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and the CNRP have persisted since the July 2013 polls. The election results showed that the CPP won 68 parliamentary seats against the 55 seats taken by the CNRP.
Claiming serious irregularities during the poll, the CNRP refused to accept the results and demanded the establishment of an independent committee to investigate the election outcome. It has boycotted parliament and held many protests demanding for a re-election, all rejected by the CPP.-VNA
