Cambodia’s GDP growth forecast at 6.5 percent

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has predicted that Cambodia 's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by 6.5 percent this year, 0.3 percent lower than the 6.8 percent recorded last year.

According to Cambodia ’s Prime Minister, Hun Sen, the country’s economy is supported by garments and rice exports, and tourism.

The country aims to export 2.5 million tonnes of rice this year, including 400,000 tonnes of finished rice, doubling the 2011 figure.

Tourism in Cambodia has also seen some positive signals. According to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh International airports received more than 600,000 visitors in the first quarter of this year, up by 20 percent over the same period last year.

In 2011, almost 3 million tourists visited Cambodia , up 20 percent over the previous year’s figure.-VNA
